Million Dollar Domain Names (URLs): News.tv and Business.tv
Ever thought that you might need a million dollar domain name (URL) for your website?
The .tv Corporation
is, as of this writing, offering the domain names business.tv and news.tv for $1,000,000/year. The name business.com was at one point the most expensive domain ever sold, at $7.5 million, while creditcards.com sold in 2004 for $2.75 million (read story here). Since business.tv and news.tv are a million per year, after several years either one could become the most expensive domain name ever, since the others, once acquired, would only cost the regular annual registration fee of other domains. But it could be worth every penny: "Business" and "news" are not currently available domains under any of the other major domain platforms (such as .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz). "News.tv" is a four letter domain with extreme relevance in an important field; "news" and "tv" certainly go together; television news is a multi-billion dollar industry. Meanwhile, a business show that had a million dollar domain name would show how successful it's own business really is, so business people will sit up and listen! The lavishness of the expenditure could generate enough publicity to pay for itself, to say nothing of the intrinsic value of the names.
The .tv Corporation
was entertaining offers for these and other premium domain names, so someone might have been able to get business.tv or news.tv for less than a million dollars. Sadly, at this writing, that option seems to have gone away!! Still, for the ultimate status symbol, go ahead and buy one for a mill. I mean, if you can afford to spend one million dollars on a few letters of the alphabet, you've really made it! If you can't afford that, More suggestions for .tv names are available here. Note: .tv prices and availability subject to change; Bloomingfun.com is an advertising affiliate of .tv only, and exercises no control over nor makes any guarantees concerning .tv. Yes, I do get a commission ;)
I tell you what, if had a news company with a huge publicity budget, I would spend a million dollars for the domain name news.tv. Think about it: "If you tuned in late to this broadcast of News TV, you can still catch up on what you missed by logging in to our website at www.news.tv". It's so easy; it's a dictionary word; it's only four letters, and it is the essence of the industry.
These names might even be worth speculating on. Buy one for a million dollars, sell it for a mill and a half to Rupert Murdoch or somebody like that!
Of course, if a Guinness Book of World Records domain name is what you're into, you could buy
TheRecordBreakingDomain.com for $12,000,001. The price went up because sex.com went for $12 million. Of course, for that money I would be glad to procure for you almost any domain name that you want that isn't already associated with a huge company like Yahoo, Google, Amazon, eBay, Microsoft etc. (I'm pretty sure they're not selling their names, at least not without the rest of the company)!
Ironically, at this writing www.million.tv is available for $1000.
See if business.tv, the million dollar domain name, is still available!
Flash! the .tv Corporation has several 1,2, and 3 character domains featured, including seven out of ten one-digit numbers at $10,000 each (oops, make that six of 'em!). Visit the .tv Corporation and click "Premium Domains". You can also search by price range for cool premium names.
